Senior Software Engineer – Embedded Energy Systems: The Role
Are you a Senior Embedded Software Engineer with a passion for systems thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and safety-critical software development? Do you have experience with the V-Model and an interest in the defense sector? We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our energy systems software engineering team in Wedel, near Hamburg.

Remuneration follows the collective agreement of the metal and electrical industry (Hamburg region). Starting gross annual salary is approximately €88,000 based on a 35-hour working week, plus collectively agreed special payments (subject to length of service).

Senior Software Engineer – Embedded Energy Systems: The Role
Are you a Senior Embedded Software Engineer with a passion for systems thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and safety-critical software development? Do you have experience with the V-Model and an interest in the defense sector? We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our energy systems software engineering team in Wedel, near Hamburg.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the creation, updating and adaptation of requirements, architecture and interface documentation in DOORS, in line with project needs
- Lead the development of software architecture for embedded energy systems
- Create software designs and develop embedded software and drivers
- Integrate Matlab Simulink outputs into software (e.g. controllers)
- Perform hardware integration and error analysis during the integration phase
- Plan and coordinate software engineering activities, including time and resource management
- Take ownership of work packages, including managing and coordinating other engineers
- Structure, evaluate and comment on client software requirements during the bidding phase
- Support clients during the specification phase, clarifying technical questions and providing evidence
- Create software subcontracting specifications for subcontractors with strict traceability compliance
- Manage and coordinate software subcontractors, including formal engineering change processes
- A completed university degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or a related technical discipline
- At least 5 years of professional experience in embedded software programming
- Experience working with subcontractors
- Strong knowledge of C programming
- Experience with real-time operating systems (e.g. FreeRTOS) and hard real-time systems
- Hardware-related microcontroller programming experience
- A solid understanding of power electronics and electrical machines
- High self-motivation and strong communication skills for effective cross-team collaboration
- A structured, detail-oriented approach to ensure complete, standards-compliant documentation
- Confident use of MS Office applications
- Willingness to work in the military/defense technology sector (industry experience desirable)
- Business-fluent German and good English (for documentation and technical discussions)
- Knowledge of control engineering, field-oriented control, and PWM control of electric motors is a plus
