Test Engineer – Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) & RF Systems (f/m/d) Berlin, Germany | AUG Contract | 18 Months (Max. 24) | 60% Home Office | Up to €90,000
Are you a hands-on engineer who's just as comfortable with an oscilloscope as you are with a compiler?
We're recruiting a Test Engineer specialising in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) and RF/Communications Systems for a leading German technology firm in Berlin. This is an AUG contract role embedded in a team building and validating avionics radio systems. This is not a pure software testing role — you'll be physically building HiL test environments, connecting RF measurement instruments, debugging at the hardware/software boundary, and developing CI/CD pipelines to automate it all.
Salary Mid-Level Test Engineer: €70,000 – €75,000 Experienced HiL / Embedded Tester: €75,000 – €85,000 RF Automation CI/CD: €85,000 – €90,000
What You'll Be Doing Building HiL test environments from scratch for avionics radio software integration and functional testing. Developing test frameworks and CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD. Integrating hardware and software components into complete avionics radio devices. Fault analysis and root cause analysis — determining hardware vs. software failures and driving resolution. Automating RF measurement instruments including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and signal generators. Defining test cases and documenting results in collaboration with HW/SW development teams.
Must-Have Requirements Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering or comparable. Experience in hardware-near software development — Microcontrollers, SoC, RF/radio technology, ideally in military or safety-critical environments. Solid CI/CD experience with GitLab CI/CD and container technologies (Docker, Podman). Strong C/C with CMake — writing and reviewing test code, not just executing scripts. Confident Linux and Git user in a professional development environment. German C1 and English to a very good level — both required daily. Comfortable working hands-on with physical hardware, cables, boards and RF equipment.
Nice to Have DO-178C avionics software safety standard. Hands-on HiL setup and operation experience. RF and avionics radio (Flugfunk) knowledge. Rust in an embedded context. Instrument automation via software interfaces.
Role Details Location: Berlin, Germany Contract: AUG | 18 months, max. 24 Start: ASAP Hours: 40h/week | Up to 60% home office Eligibility: Standard nationality list | No career starters
