Java Developer – SonarQube Integration & Quality Engineering (m/f/d)
Hamburg, Germany (40% on-site / 60% remote) · 💶 €90,000–€110,000 gross p.a. · 📄 12-month contract (AUG) · Start: September 2026
About the role
We're hiring a Java Developer / Code Quality Engineer to lead SonarQube integration across the CI/CD pipeline of a large-scale enterprise Java application for a confidential end client — a major German statutory health insurer based in Hamburg. You'll own the design and rollout of SonarQube Quality Gates, custom rules, and plugin development, working inside a cross-functional Scrum/Kanban team of developers, QA engineers, and DevOps specialists.

This is a hands-on, high-autonomy role for someone who can walk into a complex, established codebase and start delivering fast — no lengthy ramp-up, no hand-holding.
What you'll do
- Analyze existing CI/CD pipelines (Maven/Gradle, Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and design the SonarQube integration architecture
- Build out SonarQube Quality Gates, pull request analysis, and branch strategy configuration
- Assess and migrate legacy, proprietary QA/static-analysis checks into SonarQube — deciding what's replaced, retired, or rebuilt
- Develop custom SonarQube plugins, rules, and quality profiles (Java-based)
- Coach development teams on interpreting SonarQube results and reducing technical debt
- Maintain build/pipeline stability across Git/GitHub, artefact repositories, and CI/CD servers
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of professional Java development, ideally in large, multi-team enterprise environments
- Proven hands-on experience with SonarQube in CI/CD — Quality Gates, PR analysis, branch strategies
- Experience building SonarQube extensions: custom rules, plugins, quality profiles
- Track record migrating proprietary static-analysis/QA tooling into SonarQube
- Strong Maven/Gradle/Git/GitHub and Jenkins/GitHub Actions experience
- Fluent German (C1) — written and spoken, essential for stakeholder alignment
- Comfortable working autonomously in Scrum/Kanban delivery environments
- Premium day rate/salary band up to €110,000 gross, with a clear path from €90k to top-tier based on plugin/extension depth
- High-impact, high-visibility mandate — you're the person consolidating years of legacy QA tooling into a modern standard
- Hybrid flexibility (60% remote) based in Hamburg
- Direct exposure to enterprise-scale Java architecture and DevOps practice
