Freelance MLOps Engineer – Enterprise AI Project | Remote / Vienna - Must speak fluent German

We are currently seeking an experienced MLOps Engineer (contract/freelance) to support a long-term enterprise AI and machine learning project based in Vienna, with a remote-first working model. This role focuses on building, scaling, and operating end-to-end MLOps and machine learning pipelines in a regulated enterprise environment, ensuring security, compliance, and production stability.

Role Overview

As an MLOps Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of scalable, compliant ML workflows across the full machine learning lifecycle, from experimentation and training to deployment and monitoring.

You will collaborate closely with data scientists, ML engineers, platform teams, and business stakeholders on a mission-critical AI initiative.

Key Project Details

• Position: MLOps Engineer (Contract / Freelance)
• Location: Vienna, Austria (Remote preferred; occasional on-site meetings by agreement)
• Start Date: ASAP
• Duration: Until end of 2026 (extension possible)
• Workload: Full-time (100%)

Key Responsibilities

• Build and operate end-to-end data science and machine learning workflows
• Implement ML orchestration solutions such as Kubeflow Pipelines
• Integrate ML experiment tracking and monitoring tools (MLflow, TensorBoard, or similar)
• Automate ML training, deployment, and monitoring processes
• Develop and maintain Python-based machine learning applications
• Implement CI/CD and GitOps practices for ML pipelines
• Ensure security and vulnerability management for code, containers, and ML models
• Operate and continuously improve production AI systems
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g. EU AI Act, internal policies, customer requirements)
• Coordinate with platform, engineering, and project teams, including stakeholder and expectation management

Required Skills and Experience

• Several years of experience as an MLOps Engineer, ML Engineer, or Data Engineer
• Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes and/or OpenShift
• Proven experience with ML orchestration, experiment tracking, and monitoring tools
• Very strong Python development skills
• Experience working in enterprise or regulated environments is highly desirable
• Fluent German and English (spoken and written)
