AI Forward Deployed Engineer
Freelance B2B (Italy)
Remote - Northern Italy; not mandatory
Our client is a Data and AI consultancy building production grade AI solutions for businesses across Italy. We're looking for a freelance AI Forward Deployed Engineer to join on a contract basis, working directly with clients to take projects from discovery through to production.
This is a hands on, full stack build role, not an academic or research position.
What you'll be doing
• Work directly with clients to diagnose real business problems and design pragmatic solutions, not the most sophisticated approach for its own sake
• Build across the full stack, front end and back end, rather than sitting purely in one layer
• Integrate AI and LLM capabilities into production systems where they genuinely solve the problem
• Own projects end to end, from architecture through to shipped, working code
What we're looking for
• A software engineer, likely with a few years as a full stack developer, who has moved into applied AI/LLM work over the last few years
• Someone who works confidently across an entire stack rather than going narrow and deep on one piece of it (we're less interested in deep research specialists)
• Able to talk through a project you've built end to end, the problem, the architecture, the trade offs
• Strong Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript (Node, React)
• Practical, hands-on experience with LLMs or GenAI, production, side projects, or open source all count
• Comfortable explaining technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
• Confident holding a conversation in English day to day (fluency is preferred)
• Based in Italy and available to work remotely; based in Northern Italy is a plus but not essential; must be open to travel
Nice to have
• Italian language skills (useful for working with the team day to day, not required)
• Experience with dbt or other data orchestration tools
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/GCP)
• Familiarity with agentic AI workflows or frameworks such as LangChain
• Prior consulting or client-facing delivery experience
