Staff Backend Engineer
Staff Backend Engineer | Cloud Domains | High Growth AI Infrastructure | Remote
The Opportunity We are the architects of the "memory" layer for the global AI ecosystem. As our managed cloud platform scales to support thousands of global enterprises, we are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to take technical leadership over our most critical business domains.
This is a high-influence, individual contributor role designed for an engineer who thrives on architectural complexity and cross-functional leadership. You won't just be writing code; you will be shaping the technical strategy for domains like Billing, Usage Metering, IAM, and Provisioning.
The Mission: Architectural Clarity & Execution You will act as the Technical Lead across multiple domains, ensuring our cloud platform is as robust and scalable as the core database engine it supports.
-
Technical Strategy: Own the long-term architecture of high-impact backend domains, establishing service boundaries and architectural guardrails.
-
Modernization: Lead migrations toward clean, maintainable architectures and define the engineering standards for the entire cloud organization.
-
Cross-Functional Influence: Act as the primary technical point of contact for Product, Finance, and Growth teams, translating business needs into high-performance engineering solutions.
-
Domain Versatility: While your initial focus may be on Usage Metering and Billing, you are motivated by the challenge of mastering new domains (Identity, Orchestration, Admin systems) as the company evolves.
-
Mentorship: Raise the technical bar by reviewing significant designs and PRs, and mentoring Senior and Mid-level engineers.
Your Technical Toolkit
-
Expertise: A proven track record as a Senior or Staff Engineer leading technical direction in complex distributed systems.
-
The Stack: High proficiency in both Python and Go (both are required for this role).
-
Data Mastery: Deep experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and high-volume transactional systems.
-
Domain Knowledge: Strong experience in one or more: Billing/Payments, Usage Metering, IAM/Identity, or Event Pipelines.
-
Leadership: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and drive technical alignment.
Why This Role?
-
Staff-Level Autonomy: Significant influence over the Cloud engineering strategy and architectural decisions.
-
High-Impact Domains: Solve the unique challenges of usage-based pricing and financial correctness in a high-growth SaaS environment.
-
Culture of Excellence: Join a pragmatic, remote-first engineering team at a category-defining AI infrastructure company.
-
Growth: A role designed for those who want to own and reshape multiple business domains over time.
