Senior Software Engineer
One of Europe's fastest-growing software groups is building a next-generation cloud ERP platform for the trades and construction sector, already live with its first customers across Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It's genuinely greenfield: built on the group's own platform rather than bolted onto an existing product, which means the architecture, the tooling and the engineering culture are being defined right now, not inherited. AI-assisted development sits at the center of how the team builds, not as an add-on.
We're hiring the sole technical lead for this product: the person who owns its technical direction as it moves from first customers to real scale. You won't manage people. You'll set how the team builds, the architecture, the tooling, the standards, and the AI-native practice that runs through all of it.
What you'll be doing
- Own architecture decisions end to end: data modelling, APIs, security and multi-tenant separation, on a product built from scratch on modern infrastructure.
- Design and evolve complex, scalable systems, and drive the improvements yourself rather than waiting to be handed them.
- Build and embed the team's AI-assisted development practice: spec-driven workflows, agent conventions and review standards for AI-generated code.
- Set and enforce engineering standards across coding, testing, deployment, monitoring and operational readiness, backed by real quality gates in CI.
- Translate business and stakeholder needs into technical solutions, and make the calls on quality versus delivery dates.
- Be the technical voice in the room with both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
What we're looking for
- 7+ years building and running cloud-native systems in production, across more than one system, not a single migration.
- Genuine infrastructure-as-code experience at scale: containerised workloads, versioned infrastructure, and ownership of your own delivery pipeline.
- Experience operating systems that a real, meaningful customer base depends on, and the ability to talk through what broke, what you changed and what you'd do differently.
- Established use of AI across the development lifecycle, not just personal use. You've set the practice for others, not only followed it yourself.
- A track record as a multiplier: engineers around you got better because of your review, your mentoring or the standards you put in place.
- Comfortable across TypeScript and Node, React, REST APIs and PostgreSQL, or able to pick this up fast.
- Professional-level German and good English. The product runs on German statutory formats, so this one is non-negotiable.
Nice to have
- Experience in trades, construction or a comparable operationally complex vertical.
- Experience modernising established software alongside new development.
- Having introduced AI-assisted development practices to a team that wasn't using them yet.
- Data platform or analytics engineering exposure.
Location: Berlin preferred, remote considered across Germany.
