The Position

NorthMark Strategies is seeking an experienced Senior Business Manager to join the Group Strategy & Operations function. The team builds business models and provides stochastic modelling capability to the wider group, helping to shape the strategic vision across the portfolio and standing up the capability for better, data-driven decision making.

This is a generalist role for a self-starter who can turn their hand to a variety of work. The successful candidate will support the portfolio businesses and the internal team across the services the team provides to the group, which include: strategic planning; strategic decision making supported by stochastic modelling; solving strategic problems across the group; and introducing and implementing best practices in strategy and operations across the portfolio.

A data-driven mindset is central to how this role operates. The team’s work is grounded in modelling and quantitative analysis, and the successful candidate will be expected to use data and evidence to frame issues, support decisions, and challenge assumptions — both within the team and with the businesses being supported.

The role suits someone comfortable operating in ambiguity, who brings just enough structure to keep things moving without overburdening the businesses they support. Experience of change in a business context is important, but this is not a methodology-led role — it is about practical, hands-on senior business support.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the coordinating point across a varied portfolio of internal and external workstreams, keeping a clear view of what is in flight, what is at risk, and what needs attention.

  • Support portfolio businesses and internal team members in taking forward strategic initiatives identified through the team’s work.

  • Bring practical structure to pieces of work that need it, without imposing heavy process on the businesses being supported.

  • Use data and modelling outputs to frame issues, support decision-making, and challenge thinking where appropriate.

  • Translate analytical and modelling outputs into clear, actionable next steps, and help the relevant business owners pick them up and run with them.

  • Keep the right people informed and engaged, adapting communication style for different audiences — from operational teams to executive leadership.

  • Anticipate where things might stall, surface issues early, and help unblock them.

  • Support prioritisation across concurrent pieces of work, helping the team and the businesses focus effort where it matters most.

  • Step into a wide range of activities as the work demands — from running a meeting, to pulling together a paper, to working alongside a business team on a specific.

Requirements:

  • 8–10 years of relevant experience, including a meaningful period within professional services (consulting, advisory, or similar), complemented by experience in operations, strategy execution, COO-style support, or senior generalist positions.

  • Experience of managing a team, with the people-leadership skills to direct, coach, and develop others, whether on a permanent or project basis.

  • Experience of business change in some form, ideally having supported or led change in an operational setting, without needing to be a change methodology specialist.

  • Demonstrable ability to manage multiple concurrent pieces of work that each require different skills, stakeholders, and pace.

  • A clear data-driven mindset — comfortable working with quantitative information, drawing on it to support decisions, and engaging credibly with analytical and modelling colleagues.

  • Comfortable operating in lightly-structured environments and bringing order where it is needed, without defaulting to process for its own sake.

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the credibility to work with senior leadership and the pragmatism to work alongside operational teams.

  • Highly organised, calm under pressure, and able to hold the detail across a varied workload.

  • Proactive, pragmatic, and adaptable, with an interest in working at the intersection of strategy, analysis, and delivery.

  • Experience within investment, portfolio, or multi-business environments is beneficial.
