Software Support Engineer

Xcede are partnering with a world-leader in Energy Management and have a urgent requirement to build a team of Software Support Engineers, joining a dynamic team to provide expert L2/L3 support, being the point of contact for technical issues and providing professional services. Please note, absent of proven Software Support skills, the client would also consider experienced Software Developers who are looking to branch more in to a support role.

This engineer will be located at a customer site in Reading and will provide Application and IT support. The position will provide a first point of contact for customers and then will work closely with global locations to troubleshoot and resolve all customer issues.
* Monitor customer cases through the tracking system.
* Work with customers to gather information, investigate, diagnose, and resolve issues.
* Assist with the installation and testing of patches onto the customer's systems.
* Assist with configuration management, system tuning, database cleansing, pro-active system monitoring, and general system administration tasks.
* Facilitate the relationship between customer and 3rd party vendors with whom the customer contracts directly.
* Advise on strategy for end-of-life hardware items.
* Support planning, coordination and logistics.
* Communication, performance reporting.

* Knowledge of Information Technology
* Strong troubleshooting & debug skills
* Ability to read and interpret System and Application logs
* Experience with Configuration Management Systems
* Customer communication skills
* BS/BA in Computer Systems or related technical degree
* UNIX (Linux preferred), C/C++, Java, SQL, shell scripting
* Prior experience with EMS systems or other SCADA systems
